![]() Sure enough, when the Battle of Alamance kicks off, it proves to be the final standoff between Jamie and his godfather. At least in terms of the “Outlander” narrative, that is. Unfortunately he’s too late and Jocasta reveals she cannot be with a man of war, effectively squashing one of his last reasons for living. ![]() Although Murtagh previously told her to settle down and be happy, he now has a change of heart and tries to stop the festivities from happening. ![]() While Murtagh is busy fighting for his honor and evading the English, the love of his life, Jocasta (Maria Kennedy Doyle) is moving on with marriage. Much of the season revolves around his journey to establish and solidify Fraser’s Ridge as a safe and functional home, while protecting those he loves and trying to do right by his community. Jamie is aware, having been involved in the conversation Bree overheard in the first place, but getting revenge on the man who attacked his daughter isn’t the only thing on his mind. Speaking of Bonnet, during the reception Bree learns he isn’t dead after all, although she chooses to keep that information to herself for the time being. The kid may or may not be his biological child after Bree’s assault by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speelers) in Season 4, but he has made a decision to raise him as his own. The fifth season picks up with Bree and Roger’s wedding, which takes place following Roger’s decision to stay in the past with his beloved and her son Jemmy (Andrew and Matthew Adair). There’s a lot to discuss, so without further ado, let’s get into the (subjective) ranking of the episodes of Outlander season 5.‘Outlander’ Cast and Producers Preview Fraser’s Ridge Troubles for Jamie and Claire in Season 6 Establishing Fraser’s Ridge For the rest, ranking them was a daunting task because of how great they are. Basically, there was maybe one episode that was just alright. Special character moments were taken into consideration, as were standout moments of adaptation from Diana Gabaldon’s books. I mean, the whole locust thing was crazy, but it slowed the momentum the show had begun to build. Then, of course, there were episodes like “Better to Marry Than Burn” that didn’t quite compare to the stronger episodes of the season and felt more like ways to bridge the gap between powerful episodes. Episodes like “The Ballad of Roger Mac” and “Famous Last Words” were huge ones for the Fraser/McKenzie family and helped shaped their journeys moving forward. How did I go about this? Well, there were some standout moments from almost every episode, but I focused heavily on ones that really accelerated the story. In my opinion, it was Outlander’s best season yet, and the rewatch inspired me to rank all 12 episodes! It was a difficult but exhilarating task, and only reminded me how much I love this series. There was a lot of plot and character development, and a depth that we hadn’t quite seen before. ![]() ![]() And during my rewatch, it occurred to me just how special and riveting the season was. I’m sure I’m not the only Outlander fan out there who’s already rewatched the most recent fifth season of the show. But if there’s anything I’ve learned from shows going on hiatus between seasons, it’s that we can always entertain ourselves by going back re-binging past episodes. As each Sunday comes and goes, I can’t help but briefly get excited only to realize there is no new episode of Outlander on the way. We’re a few weeks into the Droughtlander now, and I have to admit, it’s been rough. Outlander Season 5 Key Art and Marketing Shoot – Sep 17-21 2019 ![]()
